Barney Says
AA Gill once wrote ‘Food and pubs go together like frogs and lawnmowers, vampires and tanning salons, mittens and Braille’. We can’t possibly put it better than that, so we won’t try. He was right. The British gastropub is often a graveyard of once enjoyable dinners that have been ‘refined’, deconstructed and then microwaved beyond recognition.
If we were to choose a pub to lead the resistance, proving that food and pubs can in fact form a powerful and delicious alliance, it would be The Star and Dove. It’s fancier than your typical pub fare, but we’d argue that a walk round Vicky Park and dinner at The Star and Dove is an afternoon extremely well spent.
