Barney Says
Until recently, Manchester had one sizable gap on its food resume: Mexican. Then along came Madre. Directly translated, Madre means mother. In Mexican slang, Madre means a whole host of things, most of which are rather unpleasant. But perhaps the best translation in this context is a toda madre, which can be used to say something is awesome. We can’t vouch for Madre’s authenticity but we can vouch for its cochinita pibil, its elote and its guacamole with chicharonnes. Those really are quite awesome. Especially when washed down with a mezcalita. It’s the best Mexican restaurant in Manchester. Mother would be proud, if a little wary of the name.
