Forget Jospeh Chamberlain, Ozzie Osborne, or HP Sauce, the true title of king of Brum is a straight toss-up between Glynn Purnell and PJ from season two of Big Brother. Glynn’s eponymous restaurant is Michelin through-and-through, with intelligent cookery cut through with an unmistakable Birmingham accent. They might have moved on from the days of serving a fish course that doesn’t contain fish, but there is still plenty of subtle wit dotted throughout the tasting menus. The burnt custard egg shell still to this day remains worthy of all the Great British Menu plaudits.
