No two visits to John and Ceri Cook’s Rocket and Rye ever seem the same. It has a look and a quiet charm all its own, and the menu comes at you fast in a flurry of good ideas. The menu might read ‘mushrooms on toast’ or ‘corned beef hash’ but you know it’ll exceed expectations. In the evenings the menu gets slightly cheffier (feather steak with garlic butter sauce, duck breast and plum relish) but at heart this is unfussy comfort food, showcasing ingredients at their best. In short- cooking that knows when to leave well enough alone. We dare you to leave without falling in love with the place, just the tiniest bit.
